On Facebook I was invited into a group called “A Tribute to Virginia Tech from the Midwest.” I declined. I know that the creators had good intentions in mind, but what is the point? Is my lip service to the families really going to make anything better? Why not instead say everyone give a dollar to the American Red Cross, or perhaps to a fund for education? Maybe everyone could donate for grief counseling for the families and a memorial for the victims on the Virginia Tech campus. That would be a more fitting tribute to the fallen than my lip service.
I just found out that there is actually a fund for the Virginia Tech tragedy already in existence. I will be donating myself. Go to:
