Merry Christmas!

The new boyfriend celebrated the holiday by falling down the stairs. Someone explain to me why boys are so self-destructive! The former boytoy landed on his head the past two winters at holiday celebrations, and the new boyfriend has continued the tradition this year.

Christmas itself was reasonably uneventful at home (considering we weren’t even planning on being here), but my sister’s arrival home was slightly too eventful. Her plane was supposed to arrive in the midst of an impressive snowstorm. It was redirected. I was already in town to meet her with the family dog. The three of us spent the night in hotels, expecting her to arrive via plane early the following morning. Instead, the airline chose to bus the passengers to their final destination due to the snow. The conditions also contributed to my landing my mother’s sport-utility vehicle in the interstate ditch. Luckily, there was zero damage, and the four-wheel drive and a little persistence managed to spring me from the ditch and two feet of snow, no towing required. Breaking out of the ditch was actually kind of fun, and the dog in the back seat barely even woke up.

Tomorrow we are supposedly leaving for Arizona. We were planning to leave for the west coast three days ago, but this is a typical development in our vacation plans. The weather contributed significantly to the changes, causing my sister’s flight issues and our desires to escape being buried in fluffy white stuff for awhile. The loose plans involve a pick-up camper, the Grand Canyon, and a Gopher football game.

Wish me luck! This is going to be my first family vacation in four years! Hopefully, we all survive with sanity intact!
