Bad Winos

"I drove through Nebraska once and it changed my life!" ~ Our Campground Neighbor

Last weekend we took advantage of the holiday to get the heck out of dodge and head to North Carolina's super sweet version of wine country on our first camping trip together...in the middle of summer...it was a bit warm.  This was also one of the first times the almost husband has been camping since he was little.  Which explains why he didn't pack:  a knife, working flashlights, pots, pan or any food.  But with a quick trip to the grocery store we managed with hotdogs, s'mores and a paring knife!

On our first night there, we made friends with our campground neighbors.  A couple invited us over to help them with a huge pot of beef stew.  Bonus, the husband happened to be in culinary school.  After finishing the delicious food, we sat around and shot the shit with them for several hours, finally leaving when almost all the other campfires had been put out.

Our primary activity of the weekend was sampling the goods at some of the many wineries in the area.  We hit up four of the wineries and sampled over thirty wines.  We're not good winos, though.  We barely avoided making faces when trying "real" wines.  We like a little wine with our sugar.

We also paid a visit to a nearby tourist attraction, by accident, of course.  We visited the sleepy little town of Mount Airy for dinner one evening and there were signs posted everywhere saying "Welcome to Mayberry."  The town is Andy Griffith's hometown.  It certainly fit...the average age of the diners in the restaurant had to be over sixty, even with us factored in.
